Challenge: How to Combine Functionality with Character?
From the outset, we approached designing corporate notebooks as a task with a much broader scope than simply creating a writing pad for recording dates and names. Clients expected a product that would simultaneously be:
- functional and comfortable in everyday use
- elegant and aesthetic
- very high quality
- extraordinary and unique
- strongly associated with the brand
- reflecting the company’s values
The notebook had to be “cool” – one you’d want to reach for, not one that would just end up in a drawer for months. The challenge was to reconcile utility with image, and technology with emotion.
Our Approach: Every Detail Matters
Each notebook was created as an individual project – from the first page to the last detail.
We started inside:
- checkered, lined or plain cards – depending on the client’s work style
- selection of paper weight for writing comfort
- decorative and special papers as a distinctive element
- carbon paper dividers
- pocket at the end of the notebook for business cards and small items
Then we designed the cover:
- hard or soft
- sewn or glued
- bookbinding, printing or printed fabric
- covers with single-color, CMYK or Pantone prints
- finishing: matte foil, glossy foil, soft touch foil, spot varnish
- hot stamping and embossed mole skin logo
We utilized both modern printing technologies and traditional binding methods. Every element – from the paper type to the stitching – was subordinated to the quality and character of the brand, as well as the client’s preferences.
Some projects went beyond established models. Among them, we created notebooks with anti-stress coloring pages, distributed as giveaways along with sets of crayons. These were put in special packaging with a logo – a cutout shape revealing the crayon colors. We tailored this project to the client’s aesthetic requirements by combining two sets of crayons into one. An additional gift was a thick, A4-sized cotton bag for easy carrying.
In other projects, we featured a company-related photo on the inside cover, such as construction machinery for the Tree Group, and each page also featured a slogan reminding us of the company’s values. The overall design was visually and communicatively coherent.

- recognizable as “the notebook of this company”
- happily used every day
